Courtesy of God, Not Mine

Courtesy of God, Not Mine

If you think my kindness is an inherent trait, you couldn’t be more wrong.

Believing that I’m naturally kind to humans is like mistaking fire for water—completely off the mark.

The truth is, I’m not a good person by nature. I don’t act out of some inner virtue; I act solely for Allah.
Any kindness you see in me is not mine—it’s courtesy of God.

1. The Truth About Kindness

1. It’s Not About Me:
What you perceive as kindness doesn’t originate from me.
If it were up to me alone, I wouldn’t go out of my way for anyone.

2. A Reflection of Faith:
The only reason I extend kindness is because of Allah.
I obey His commands, and that includes showing kindness to His creation—even when my nature resists.

3. A Struggle Within:
Being kind isn’t always easy for me.
It’s a constant battle between my nature and my duty as a servant of Allah.

2. Why I Act Kindly

1. For Allah, Not Humans:
Every kind act I do is an act of obedience to Allah.
I’m not seeking gratitude, recognition, or approval from humans.
I do it solely to please my Creator.

  • “We feed you only for the countenance of Allah. We wish not from you reward or gratitude.”
    (Surah Al-Insan: 9)

2. A Command, Not a Choice:
Kindness isn’t optional—it’s an obligation placed upon me by Allah.
Whether I feel like it or not, I’m bound to act in accordance with His will.

3. A Reminder of My Role:
As a servant of Allah, my actions must reflect His teachings.
Kindness is a way of demonstrating my submission to Him, even if it doesn’t come naturally.

3. The Reality of My Nature

1. I’m Not a Naturally Kind Person:
Left to my own devices, I wouldn’t go out of my way for anyone.
My nature isn’t one of softness or generosity—it’s something I’ve had to cultivate for Allah.

2. Flaws and Imperfections:
I’m flawed, just like everyone else.
My acts of kindness are not a reflection of my character but of my effort to align with Allah’s expectations.

3. A Reminder of Humility:
Recognising that my kindness comes from Allah keeps me humble.
It reminds me that without Him, I wouldn’t have the strength or will to act kindly.

4. The Purpose of Kindness

1. To Reflect Allah’s Mercy:
By showing kindness, I aim to reflect a fraction of Allah’s mercy and compassion.
It’s not about me—it’s about representing Him.

2. To Fulfill My Duty:
Kindness is part of my duty as a servant of Allah.
It’s a way to honour Him and the trust He has placed in me.

3. To Inspire Goodness:
Even if my actions are for Allah, they might inspire others to act kindly too.
If that happens, all credit goes to Allah, not me.

5. What I Want You to Understand

1. Don’t Credit Me:
If you see kindness in my actions, don’t attribute it to me.
It’s Allah’s influence, not my own nature, that drives me to act this way.

2. Don’t Expect Perfection:
I’m not a good person.
I’m flawed, and I struggle daily to align myself with Allah’s will.

3. Understand the Source:
Every kind act you see is a reflection of Allah’s mercy and guidance.
Without Him, I wouldn’t have the capacity to act kindly at all.

Conclusion: Courtesy of God

If you’ve benefitted from my kindness, know that it’s not mine—it’s Allah’s.

I act not out of personal virtue but out of obedience to Him.
Every kind act is a reflection of His mercy, not mine.

I’m no good person, and I don’t pretend to be.
Any kindness you see is courtesy of Allah, and to Him belongs all the credit and praise.
